Operation Monster FrankenCross is go

Posted on Updated on

Operation Monster FrankenCross is go and you thought you’ve seen everything, this is your early warning that another silly and ugly bike is on the way……

And no I’m not talking about the new upcoming Travers Race Fat Bike*, this is about 5 or 6 weeks away.

It came about this weekend, as I clocked up my just short of my 2200th miles on my Planet X XLS Cyclo Cross, although it’s a fast bike for any rides over 90 minutes it becomes uncomfortable. As I couldn’t get a fatter tyre on the back, I’ve got a 40mm on the front, I first thought about a Cyclo Cross bike that would fit a 40mm on the back, but that would only give a few more miles of comfort.

So, after contacting a new and upcoming fork manufacturer in Iceland (yes Iceland) I’ve done a deal for myself to be a brand Ambassador for them over here in the UK and got a deal for Michael at Travers Bikes to carry these unique (niche) forks as stock items.

The company is Lauf Forks website http://laufforks.com/

And the make a 60mm suspension fork without any moving or serviceable parts, perfect for the lazy bugger in me

Lauf Fork

The Franken MonsterCross Bike, will be built around the Travers Rudy 29er, with drop Salsa Woodchipper “type” bars, with Bar end shifters, the 3 x 9 (or 2 x 9) set up off my Niner, the new Lauf Trail Race 29er fork and the Brooks Cambuim C17 saddle.

I should get all the bits around this weekend, have it built next week and to have done a couple of rides on it before the Battle on the Beach event in south Wales in 20 days time, where I’ll take this and my 29er+ to see which is the best on the sand.

So the new niche is on the way, you have been warned.

*Which will also have on new Icelandic Carbonara Fat Fork

Lauf Carbonara Fork

Brooks Cambuim C17** and be running with “normal” Jones bars from the Mukluk, which is going to a nice new home in 4 weeks time.

** This bike will have blue decals and rim strip and would look so good with the new Brooks Denim C17, any chance of a freebie Brooks?
