This weekend sees the 6th running of the Bear Bones bike Packing event called The Welsh Ride Thing.
The ride starts at around 1.30pm on the Saturday and finishes sometime on the Bank Holiday Monday, so it’s 3 days and 2 nights of self supporting riding.
There is no set route, although there are some grid points to help you find some nice trails and others making an area where there are some prizes.
My Plan A is to travel very light with no cooking gear, relying on breakfast bars, snacks and Spar convenience store butties between pubs meals.
Sat – Around 50 miles via a pub for an eveneing meal head to some woods for a bivi spot
Sun – Breakfast bars to see me down into a village and find a hotel for a fry up. Ride about 80 miles and possible aim for a bothy overnight, via another pud for another evening meal.
Mon – Drop down into another village to hunt for breakfast before eiding the 40 or so miles back to the start.
Distance – 165 miles
Ups and downs – 19,410 ft
Bike – Travers Angus 29er+ with this much gear hanging off it
