I’m fat again

Posted on Updated on

After a longer than expected wait for the parts to all come together after selling my Salsa Mukluk to a mate

The all new Travers Bat Fastard lives, but as normal I’ve gone weird with the build using Lauf for the supply of the forks with their all new Carbonara Fat Bike maintenance free suspension fork.

9 6 - New Bike Time

It’s running on 100mm wide Clown shoe rims and 4.8″ wide Big Fat Larry tyres

1 x 10 set up, with a choice of front rings, 32 as shown in the picture above, 30 for hilly and bike packing and 36 for tarmac racing

The frame is work of art, it rides fantastically well and looks the business with internal cable routing, nice welding and a massive horse show bridge.

The fork is a little special giving up to 60mm of travel that absorbs all the terrain up to house bricks much quicker than any conventional suspension fork that I’ve ever ridden on, it’s not a downhill fork and it’s defiantly for use with both wheels on the ground for 99.5% of any ride.

For extra comfort I’ve gone for the tried and very well tested Brooks Cambuim saddle and the Jones Loop bar that came off my Mukluk

I’ve done around 150 miles on it since Rich at Keep Pedalling built up for me

10 6 Skids for kids on an empty beach

Solo rides

11 6 Fat night ride

Group rides

City rides

But this weekend see’s it’s first big ride.

I’ll be bike packing around Northumberland, 2 days on the beach and 2 days down the new sandstone Trail, with a bit of linking using the Hadrians Wall route through Newcastle to link the two together. 250+ miles with 3 bivi nights sleeping out wild.

I’ve fitted the 30 tooth front ring ready for the sandstone trail climbs and any soft sand that I encounter, here’s the set up with everything needed carried on the bike and nothing on my back.

The bike luggage is from  Wildcat and Alpkit
